HROne Review 2024: Does it Beat Other HR and Payroll Software?

May 31st 2024

Managing employee data on spreadsheets, onboarding and employees, keeping track of payroll compliances, and dealing with frequent requests from employees like “send me the payslip for the month”—should we continue, or does your head hurt already?

These are some of the daily struggles of founders, HRs, and finance professionals in growing companies. Managing these single-handedly without HRMS software is the kind of bravery that won’t reward you. Instead, you may drown in the ocean of overwork.

Suppose you are considering buying HR and payroll software that automates payroll, leaves and attendance tracking, and other day-to-day HR activities. In that case, HROne is undoubtedly a name you have heard of. However, existing users of HROne are not entirely happy with the tool and reviews like “too complicated,” “Lots of dependence on manual work,” and “Custom reports are unavailable” are all over the review platforms.

While HROne is a good HRMS and payroll platform, there’s no harm in knowing about some HROne alternatives, too.

In this HROne review, we will share our honest review of HROne and suggest alternatives to HROne. Let’s get started.

TL;DR

  • HROne is an efficient HRMS platform offering three key features: HR software, Payroll, and Leave and Attendance management software.

  • Customers appreciate the ease of use of this tool but complain about technical glitches and its incapability to generate custom reports.

  • HROne’s pricing is not startup-proof as all its pricing plans come with a minimum commitment of 50 employees, and that too with feature-gating.

  • We have also discussed significant HROne alternatives, including Craze where you will get access to all advanced HR and payroll features starting at an investment of ₹80/person/month.

What is HROne?

HROne is an HRMS platform that automates day-to-day HR and finance activities through three solutions:

  • Payroll: Integrated payroll management software for timely, accurate, and integrated payroll processing.

  • Attendance: Leave and attendance management software to calculate paydays and time off.

  • Core HR software: Customised HR workflows and a streamlined employee database for ease of team management

Our Take on HROne’s Pricing: Does it Fit a Startup’s Budget?

HROne currently has three different pricing plans: Basic, Professional and Enterprise.

Basic

The Basic plan costs ₹85/user/month for a team of 50+ employees. While it offers basic features like payroll, reports, and geo-tagging, this plan doesn’t provide access to critical features like automated onboarding, performance management, employee database,  and helpdesk.

Professional

The Professional plan costs ₹115/user/month for a team of 50+ employees. It offers access to features like a centralised employee database, onboarding, and document management. However, critical features like performance management and reviews, employee engagement portals, employee helpdesk, and workflows are missing from this plan.

Enterprise

HROne offers its Enterprise plan at custom pricing. This plan is suitable for organisations with 50+ employees and includes all the missing features from the Basic and Professional plans, such as custom workflows, performance management systems, and an employee helpdesk.

Is HROne pricing apt for growing businesses?

If you ask us, the answer is may be not. Here’s why:

  • All three pricing plans of HROne are subjected towards organisations with over 50 employees. At the initial stage, 50-person teams are rare in startups and growing businesses. Most startups start their journey with 10 or even lesser numbers of employees. As per their website, their subscription starts at ₹5000/month with add-ons for customisations.

  • Due to feature lock-ins, the Basic plan won’t be suitable for most startups. Use cases like document management, onboarding and offboarding, letters are not covered. That means opting for the Professional plan (which also gates essential features), and even if you have 50 employees in your team, paying ₹115/user/month would increase your monthly cost to a minimum ₹5750 per month. In a growing team, more employees will join, and that means the monthly fee will keep improving and that too without accessing all features

While we support HROne's per-user-per-month pricing model, we feel the gated features, the minimum 50-employee term, and the high per-user-per-month price don’t do justice to startups and their business models. Wondering if such a software even exists?

Instead, Startups require a more affordable plan with access to all required HRMS and payroll features.

Introducing a software that does precisely that: Craze. Check out their pricing plans

  • Core: Craze’s Core Plan costs ₹40/month/per person. There is no “minimum employee” restriction, and businesses have access to all core HR features such as custom workflows, instant support and helpdesk, the central hub for employee databases, templates and document management, a robust reporting system, and so on. Craze's pricing is the same for all, whether you have a 5-member team or 25 or 50.

  • Payroll: Craze’s Payroll plan costs ₹60/month/per person and provides access to all advanced payroll features, such as one-click payroll, compliance with local tax regulations like TDS, PF, PT, automated tax reports, customised salary structures, deductions, and reimbursements. All of these features are available to teams of any size without any minimum commitments.

  • Leaves and Time & Attendance: At ₹40/month/per person of each product, it provides access to all significant features, including auto-sync with payrolls, automated timesheets, custom leave policies for different teams, and easy leave tracking.

User Feedback: Are HROne Users Happy with this Software?

We have analysed the HROne features ourselves. Now let’s give a visit to different review portals like G2, Capterra, Gartner, Getapp, Trustradius, and Techjockey to see what the existing users of HROne are saying about this tool:

HROne positive reviews

Question: What do you like about HROne?

Rupesh K.: “HRone has helped our organisation solve major problems like Workforce, attendance and payroll management. The software is straightforward to use, and the best part is the mobile app, which can be accessed on the go.”

Durgesh R.: “User-friendly Interface. HRONE offers an intuitive interface that simplifies navigation and usability, making it easy for HR professionals and employees to adapt to the platform quickly.”

Moumita S: “There is a unique 'search' option in the main feed wall where one can search any employee enrolled in his/her organisation, which is basically termed as a global directory for a particular organisation.”

HROne negative reviews

Question: Question: What do you dislike about HROne?

Gulshan N.:

  • Ease of use (too much complicated)

  • Navigation from one module to another

  • Understanding of payroll, income tax and other compliance and managing it

  • Lots of dependence on manual work (less automation)

  • Cost

  • Custom reports are unavailable; if you need something specific, you must merge 2 - 3 reports with proficiency in Excel!

  • Processing time for generating reports, salary, uploading Excel and sometimes loading the page!”

Punam v.: “Lots of technical glitches and After several time shift assignments it changes automatically.”

Mohan C.: Onboarding and initial configuration not available to the user as Admin. It's done as part of implementation. The user Admin should be able to configure and onboard. There is no option to Delete an Employee, we could have hired but the individual may not have joined. No option to handle this. All reports have multiple filters to select each time. The report should have one page to apply all filters. Applied filters don't clear out after logging off. The user access and related field visibility are not linked. You do not have access but you will see the option and will get a message with no records. If no access is given the option should be greyed out or non-visible. User Access management is very cumbersome and not user friendly.”

Moumita S: “Some reports are not available in the report section where one cannot find out from the start which employees have posted the status on the feed wall We have an option of setting filters for the particular employee but for the same report, the domain is not available.”

Final Verdict based on HROne Reviews

Based on our personal review and detailed analysis of user reviews on HROne, here’s our final verdict:

HROne is not suitable for startups and growing businesses with less than 50 employees. It is expensive and lacks significant features like a performance management system, centralised database, and automated onboarding workflow.

When asked about this, users were told that HROne’s inability to generate custom reports and frequent glitches were challenges that kept coming back.

If you are a growing team of less than 50 employees looking for an HRMS platform that provides access to all the advanced features, irrespective of your team size and budget, you should look for an HROne alternative.

Let’s find out more about these alternatives in the next section.

Conclusion

HROne is a simple, user-friendly HRMS platform that HRs prefer for its advanced automation capabilities. However, after in-depth analysis, we found that some users are not happy with the frequent technical glitches, feature-gating, and unavailability of custom reports. HROne's pricing plans are not startup-proof, as they are typically designed for organisations with 50+ employees.

We have also explored a few HROne alternatives, including Craze, which offers access to all advanced HR, payroll, and attendance management features at a minimum cost of ₹80/user/month.

Here’s a short pitch to convince you about Craze’s effectiveness, if you aren’t already 😎:

Is Craze right for you?

Yes. As biased as it may sound, we are confident that once you start using Craze, you will spot the noticeable differences between it and other legacy HRMS platforms and realise that it is made by and for startups.

  • You are looking for a people operating system that single-handedly operates HR, finance, and IT use cases

  • You value features and are frustrated with most HRMS platforms gating the required features for Enterprise users

  • You prefer fast responses to your queries and get things done faster
